follow the same recipe..

As well as a team around me and doing more of what I love and am good at, I also wanted to boost my fitness, so am taking steps towards getting much fitter again. I have had a session with a trainer, been weighed and measured, and now have a new programme to work through.

Claire & snowman friend! It has given me a bit of a boost as well as finding events that I can join in with – a 5km in March which will be about right for training (as long as the snow holds off!).

What have you been procrastinating about? I speak to lots of nurses who want to make changes and don’t seem to know where to start. If you have achieved something before that you want to have another go at then you can use the same strategy as before – whether that is working with someone, going to a particular place, reading and research, joining a club or anything else then start to re-do what you did before for the same results.

If you are trying something new, then find someone who has got the same results that you want and see how they did it. It is like following a recipe – if someone else has done it then maybe you can do it too by doing the same thing.

Intentions..
Happy Nurses
Monday, 25 January 2010 00:00

What are your intentions for this year? When I reviewed my 2009 I looked at what was going well and what I wanted to change and one of the things that came across strongly was ‘team’.

I am very good at some aspects of happynurses and not so good at others. I need a team of people around me to take on the roles I am not so good at to free up my time to focus on speaking, coaching, writing and creating new things.

At the end of last year I met a woman who has been helping me to arrange events and this has totally transformed the way I am planning the business and what I can do, as I know that creating the talks and doing them is what I am good at, not the organizing and tech parts.

What do you do well, that you would like to do more of, and what would you like to do less of? This can be at home as well as work. We can, as nurses, think we have to be good at everything but we can also ask for help. A team that has a variety of people with different strengths and skills is vital.

We have also found this in the pub quiz as last week there were 5 of us instead of 2 and we had a broader range of knowledge.

Who do you want on your team, happynurses?

If you need some inspiration remember the teleseminar today January 25th at 20.00 – join us and find some ways to get motivated this year. Click here to go to the teleseminar details.

you in 2010

Nurses get ready for 2010 by starting to think now about what you want and how you can get there. This could start with the end of this year – the festive period and all the jobs and tasks that go along with that. Whether you are working or not it is always a difficult time with lots to do and think about.

Get some help is the first thing – lots of women end up doing 99% of the work and then feeling frazzled even if their families are having a good time! Take some time out, have a date with your partner and ensure you feel cared for. It is likely to be busy with more swine flu so taking time to relax and care for ourselves is vital. I will also be doing some shifts so am there with you all!

transition
Happy Nurses
Monday, 19 October 2009 06:20

This week has been one of highs and lows. I have been coaching my nursing clients and helping them to transition into roles they love and teaching them how to feel confident in interviews.

They have been following the schedule as laid out in the previous blogs last month and doing really well. We also work with them when they have started their job to help them settle in and address any challenges they have at this time.

If you are looking for a new nursing job then follow the same programme or ask for our free e-book which gives you lots of detail to help you to work through the stages to get to where you really want to be.

fun, challenge, adventure..
Happy Nurses
Monday, 06 July 2009 22:33
Last week was one of achieving many goals and also finding some clarity amongst the many streams that comprises happynurses. How to reach more nurses? How to find out what nurses really want from us? How to get more nurses on our coaching courses? These are all questions going through our heads at the moment!

Notice that all these questions are ‘how….?’ questions. These questions expand our minds to think of solutions and come up with some new ideas. I have already had a moment of clarity via my PR coach who suggested we did all our PR activities in ‘themes’. I realised that this was the solution to the whole structure of happynurses! So each month will have a theme and all the work we do will feed into that – on the website, ezine, blogs etc.

Join us in this month’s theme – how to find more time for fun, challenge and adventure in life!

notebooks...
Happy Nurses
Tuesday, 09 June 2009 20:36

Claire & JohnnieI have been developing a lot of my ideas for happynurses recently and looking back at some of my old notebooks. I love notebooks as a way of organising my thoughts and thinking of new ideas, writing goals and planning my action each week. It is amazing to me, still, how effective this tool is. One notebook and a pen and I can create all sorts of things, and so can you!

Many of my coaching clients are now in the routine of weekly planning – and this includes everything, not just ‘chores’ or work activities, but also social and family fun, items just for them and times to catch up with old friends. If you are a stressed out nurse and would like some real clarity – try this yourself!

Once a week (I like Sunday afternoon/evening) sit down with a notebook and set some goals for what you would like to achieve in all areas of your life. Then work our small actions you can take this week to make it happen – just the first, smallest step!

Happynurses started with an idea, then one article, a blog post, a client and now look where we are…!

Congress last week
Happy Nurses
Monday, 18 May 2009 11:36

happynurses' team at CongressWe had a great week last week, meeting nurses and giving out the 'life balance' booklet at the RCN Congress. Hello to everyone we met there!

The booklet has one of my favourite tools in it, along with some simple tips and techniques to help nurses to create better balance in life. We can often spend time waiting for 'someone else' to fix things for us, or sort our lives out, or rescue us from boredom, but the truth is - we have to take responsibility and do it for ourselves.

Don't wait for someone else to do it for you, take charge and take some action towards a life you really want!

Think about what it is you really want for yourself and your life and start to make it happen - it's up to you!

Keep taking small steps, happynurses!

Spring review
Happy Nurses
Friday, 20 March 2009 15:31
PICT1242  I love these sunny days when I get a beautiful sunset every evening into my lounge. It makes me realise how lovely some 'simple things' are.

I have also been thinking back to this time last year when my life and health were very different. This month I have run 5km five times despite having the goal of only running it once, at a race-for-life event. Last year I had undiagnosed coeliac disease with anaemia and felt terrible. I had about 3 hours energy a day, and that was if I pushed myself really hard. I was often in bed by 8pm after spending all afternoon on the sofa incapable of thought or activity.

The price of having to eat a gluten-free diet has been worth it - to feel the way I do now. I also decided to give up drinking alcohol as it made me feel so rough, and I drink mainly herbal tea and my energy levels have rocketed.

Happynurses is now on the cusp of developing into something huge - we have 1000 on the email list, I have 9 coaching clients, an NHS Trust interested in working with me, one franchisee who will become a happynurses coach in her area and the most amazing team, most of whom I didn't even know 6 months ago, never mind a year ago. We are gearing up for massive PR once the site is ready and my book is launched in June.

What have you done in the last 12 months, or is your life 'much the same' - same challenges, moans, job you don't really like, or have you taken action to move on? I would love to hear from you. If you need some help, get a coach - seriously - it will transform your life forever, guaranteed!

Get going, happynurses and this time next year - who knows?!

How it all works.....
Happy Nurses
Saturday, 07 March 2009 15:26
PICT0005  As I said - last week saw the first happynurses 'coaching skills' course. We got 7 people in a room to teach them how to coach others, and I thought one of the best ways to experience the power of coaching was through them experiencing it themselves first. Little did I realise the effect this would have on the attendees!

It was the first time Johnnie and I had trained together and only the 4th time we had spent any time together (and the first workshop I had ever run...!) but it was easy, fun, relaxed and flowed like a dream. We are a truly wonderful partnership.....

This is the result of me listening to my intuition when I had a strong message to contact Johnnie, and then having the courage to follow through on my feelings. Listen to yours, happynurses - it will make all the difference!

Be in tune with YOUR feelings, happynurses!

Claire-Training So, another big leap for happynurses!

Last week we held our 'pilot' coaching course for 7 participants and the results were beyond our expectations by about 1,000,000%!

Seven people arrived on Wednesday and seven 'different' people left on Friday after a transformation in their lives and thoughts. Wonderful!

The next course is this month - from 27th to the 29th of March, then early June. This will be the best coaching seminar you have ever attended and we guarantee fun, learning, transformation and ongoing motivation. If you choose the advanced course you will also get 12 weeks of coaching to ensure you keep the actions going after the course.

Join us!

Be transformed, happynurses!

Action Week
Happy Nurses
Sunday, 15 February 2009 15:10

PICT0001  This week is an 'action week' for me. What does this mean?

It means I have lots of things on my 'to-do' list and some of them have been there for too long. I have caught up with a lot of the happynurses activities and have some space to really get other things done.

To join in:

Decide to have an 'action week'. Make a list of EVERYTHING that needs doing in your life - things that stress you or are broken/ running late/ dirty/ old/ irritating/ or things you have been 'meaning to get round to' for a while, and you really want to sort them out. This week is the time to do it!

Look at all the areas of your life - my vision board has my 4 main life areas - health and vitality, love, wealth and adventure.

Keep writing your list until you have it all done, then think about how long these activities will take. Many of these jobs take a few minutes but we can put them off for months - it's a great feeling to get them done!

I have 4 lists - one for each life area. I started yesterday with stocking up on food - I filled the cupboard with things that will keep so I don't have to go again for a month or so. I also recycled loads of stuff that was cluttering the flat, read a book I had wanted to read, sorted out some paperwork. Today I have been to the gym and am now looking at my 4 month plan for my life - biz, social, fitness, adventure, home, love and so on - while listening to an entrepreneurs audio.

It feels great!

Just get started and let me know how you get on!

Which way now?

4N_happynurse

This is a pic of my re-incarnation from nurse to business woman doing my '40-second elevator speech' - what re-incarnation would you like for yourself?

I have spent the past week or so speaking to new potential coaching clients and talking to them about issues they are 'struggling with' in life.

Many of them are looking for clear direction in one particular area of life, which is where a coach comes in really handy! The first step in making any change is to look at who you are and what is happening right now.If you want a new job, for example, don't start by looking at new jobs - it's more effective to start looking at YOURSELF.

In any life area that is not working for you, think about:

  • What do you really want? (imagine you can have anything - don't hold back)
  • What are your values in that area?
  • What would you love to be/do/have in a job/relationship or role?
  • Who do you admire in this area?
  • Who do you envy and why?

Take time to understand yourself and you can then make better choices about where you would 'fit'.

Use the resources available online to do some personality tests. One of my favourites is the signature strengths test at http://www.authentichappiness.com/

Have fun getting to know yourselves, happynurses

Be careful what you focus on....!
Happy Nurses

PICT1490  Reading the media this week has been the same as usual! Lots of negativity and 'scare' words on whatever topic they choose - this week it's the snow (gasp - snow in Winter, who ever would expect that??!!)

'Worst weather for....(insert date)"

"Arctic conditions...." (better buy a husky....)

"Millions in lost revenue from businesses...."

A quick glimpse around facebook however showed that most of my contacts on there had turned into big kids - building snowmen, throwing snowballs and having FUN!!!

Adverse events will happen to us as a matter of course, but is' how we deal with them that matters. Do you look for 'the worst' and dread the future, or go out and get involved, making the most of your opportunities?

If you are finding it hard to see any positive stuff in the present climate (financial and weather-wise) then make it a daily habit to look for happy events, hook up with friends for a 'gratitude' party and count your blessings.

Be happy, happynurses!

Magic
Happy Nurses

PICT1489 This is Cheltenham in the snow! the lake is frozen but the sun was out and it was magical. I also went into the Cotswolds with a new buddy this weekend and it was all frosty and looked like 'Narnia' according to him. We could have spent the day complaining about how cold it was and stayed indoors but had a wonderful time in the magical surroundings.

This is a type of 'reframe' when you decide what an event means to you. We ascribe meaning to all events in our lives and they are often unhelpful and keep us stuck.

For example we like a guy but he doesn't ring us and we spend ages wondering what we have done 'wrong'. There are a million other 'reasons' he didn't ring which would empower us to live our lives anyway.

Or our manager at work 'looks at us' in a certain way and we ascribe meaning to that too - are we in trouble, about to be fired, or is she wondering when would be the best time to give you some great feedback?

Be aware of how you give meaning to what happens in your world and create a new story if the one you have doesn't serve you any more.

Create your new future with insight, happynurses

Accomplishing those goals.....
Happy Nurses
Sunday, 11 January 2009 00:00

The snow has melted for now, Christmas and New Year are over and 2009 is underway!

I love New Year as it feels like a 'clean sheet of paper' for my life and a chance to change what I don't like for something better this time around. Doing a 'life audit' is a great idea - get the 'wheel of life' out and spend time today with a nice warm drink reviewing where you are in all areas of your life.

How is your health? What would you like instead? How is your financial life? What would you rather have? Do you love your job? How could you change it, or yourself, to make a more fulfilling role for you?

Take the time to look at where you are and where you want to be next New Year. Invest in a coach to help you to get started and create the life of your dreams this year!

Many of my goals for 2008 have come true and I now have the most amazing happynurses team to bring the other parts of the business dream into reality, with more positive happenings in all areas so watch this space!

Happy New Year, happynurses!

Johnnie

What an amazing few weeks we have had here in happynurses world! My article came out in the NMC magazine and since then 1100 nurses have come to the site and signed up for some help. I have had some incredibly personal messages of support, encouragement and despair from some of the nurses here in the UK.

It is wonderful to know that I am helping them in a small way via the happy news e-zine and my information. The new happynurses website is being constructed and will be packed with information, inspiration, positivity and advice so wait for that and get ready to move your lives on....

This has all come about through my vision, networking, persistence, learning and belief and these are all techniques that you can use to achieve whatever it is that you would like in your life.

What is your dream, happynurses?

PS This pic is me and Johnnie, one of the tutors at the Chris Howard company, after teaching me about my destiny....I knew already but it was a great weekend!

Phew! What a few weeks!

I have had a break from the blog as I have had some big glitches with my laptop which have been fixed by my IT genius friend, Mark, so it should be 'business as usual' from now on.

I have also completed 2 training courses in leadership and performance, and wealth creation with the Chris Howard company. I am ready to move to the 'next level' now and really make happynurses something big and important, for the benefit of all the unhappy and unhealthy nurses out there - and for my happiness and achievement too!

The courses have helped me to know myself better, and to look at what I am doing and how I am going about it. If things are not working as well as we'd like it is easy to give up and think it won't work, but the secrets of the Billionaires are mainly persistence, persistence, persistence!

How could you be more persistent in achieving something YOU dream about, happynurses?

NHS birthday!
Happy Nurses
Wednesday, 02 July 2008 00:00

This year is the 60th birthday of the NHS and for those who seem to like to complain about it and seek fault then perhaps it would be useful to re-visit what life was like before the NHS was created.

High death rates due to poor living conditions and poverty, no medical help if you couldn't afford it and a hierarchical system that didn't care if you had no money, you would have to suffer or die from your ailment, or have a 'back' street' treatment that may have killed you anyway.

Thanks, NHS, and here's to 60 more!

Where would you be without the NHS happynurses?

Doctors and nurses
Happy Nurses
Sunday, 25 May 2008 00:00

There was an interesting article in this week's Nursing Standard about nurses who had gone on to re-train as doctors, and they wanted a role with more responsibility and status. What they found was the opposite!

Nurses are respected in their area, often more experienced than the medical staff (as they have been working in their specialty for much longer in some cases) and spend more time with the patients, thus creating rewarding and fulfilling connections with them.

Nurses are also generally popular with the public.

Some of the re-trainees have now given up medicine. What a waste of time and money!

Make sure you know what is really involved before making big changes.

Celebrate the good parts about being a nurse, happynurses!

Important week.....
Happy Nurses
Friday, 16 May 2008 00:00

This week has been a very important one for happynurses, and me!

I met lots of lovely nurses on Monday in Bristol, and attended 3 business networking events to get the word out even further, but the most important news is that I have sold my first e-book!

This is a real breakthrough and indicates how well the automated system works. I got a confirmation email but that was it - no work for me at the buying stage at all! I wrote the book, Caroline formatted it in lovely design and the tech guys set up the payment and auto-responder system, then BINGO!

What would you like to have happen automatically, happynurses?
